Social Responsibility
Vhubvo offers a helping hand to athletes who want to excel in road running. One of the team that Vhubvo supports is Faranani Athletic Club. This team was founded in 2003 and is based in Pretoria (Muckleneuk). Currently there are 110 registered members from varying backgrounds combined by the spirit of running. In the year 2016, a squad of 42 men and women participated in the Comrades Ultra-Marathon. All 42 completed the race, bringing back Silver and Bill Rowen medals.
Soccer is of paramount importance in the history of South Africa, Vhubvo thus supports a community soccer team based in the village of Mukoma, . This team, called Mukoma Young Stars, consists of under-17 school learners who are striving to excel in the game. The formation of the team had also contributed to reducing crime in the area, as well as addressing the problem of alcohol abuse.
Another initiative which is supported by Vhubvo is potting. Pottery making is important to all people around the world. The earliest potsherd ever discovered dates between 20, 000 and 12, 000 calibrated years before present. Pottery is aligned to human evolution, and appears to be one of the most important human inventions on earth. All pottery made serves as a signature of a particular community that made it, and no two communities make similar pottery. Archaeologists study pottery technology to attempt answering questions about origins, movement and interaction of Stone and Iron Age people. Vhubvo pledges its support to Damani-Disikele Pottery, a community based organization where older women still embark in this technology and pass it to young unemployed women. This initiative is growing and these pots are sold nationwide.
